Whether you’re marking something particular or simply want the ordinary version of your life photographed, whether that’s your family, the two of you, or you on your own, I’d like to make pictures you’ll still want to look at in twenty years.
Sessions are calm and gently guided. Nobody has to perform, and nobody has to be photogenic. If you don’t know what to do with your hands, that is genuinely fine, and it is usually solved by giving you something to do rather than something to hold.
Things don’t always go to plan, particularly with young children. Someone wakes up in a bad mood, or it rains all week. Tell me and we’ll find another date. A bad morning is not a reason to push through.
Portrait
Most of the photographs you have are of other people, or of places you went. There are selfies too, and some of them are good, good enough that one of them has become the picture you use for everything. They’re all taken from the same place, though, about half a metre in front of your own face.
Think of how you’ve seen the people you love: across a kitchen, in profile, absorbed in something, not knowing anyone was looking. You know their faces that way because you were paying attention. It’s a warmer view than a mirror gives, and most of us have far less of it of ourselves than we’d like.
You don’t need an occasion for it. An ordinary Tuesday works as well as a birthday, and it might sit in the middle of a chapter you’ll want to remember later.
You also don’t need to know what to do, which is the part most people worry about. That’s my job, and in a portrait session I’m quite specific about it: where to stand, where the light is, what to do with your hands, chin a little down, look out of the window and then back at me. It reads as fussy written down and it’s the part people find easiest, because an hour of being photographed turns into an hour of small clear instructions. You won’t be smiling at a lens for the whole of it. Some of the best frames are the ones where you’re looking somewhere else entirely.

Couple
What I’m looking for in a couple session is mostly one thing: how you look at each other when nothing in particular is happening. It tends to show up around the ordinary business of your life together, who makes the coffee, whose hand ends up on whose knee, the joke that only needs two words by now, so those are the things we’ll do.
We can start at your kitchen table and end up walking somewhere, or stay in one place the whole time. If you’re marking something, an anniversary, a move, the first year this place has felt like home, tell me and we’ll build the session around it. And if you’re not marking anything at all, that’s a good enough reason too.

Whatโs included:
โ 1 to 1.5 hours
โ At home in or around Eindhoven, or a place you like being together
โ A few questions beforehand, about what you actually do together
โ 20 fully edited digital images

Family
An hour and a half is enough for one or two real things: baking cookies together, reading a favorite book on the sofa, the walk you always take on Sundays. We talk beforehand about what those things are for you, so the session is your ordinary afternoon, or morning, rather than a list to get through. And if what you would like is simply a walk in the park, that is a good session too.
Whatโs included:
โ 1.5 hours
โ At home in or around Eindhoven, or a place you like being together
โ A short questionnaire beforehand: a few things you love doing together, and what makes your children laugh
โ 30 fully edited digital images
โ Help with what to wear
โ Private online gallery, ready within two weeks
โ Up to 5 people, โฌ25 for each additional person
Price: โฌ395

Family, Room to Linger
An hour and a half asks you to choose one or two things. This one doesn’t. We plan it beforehand, around what you actually do together: the Saturday pancakes, the walk you always take, the game before bed. Then we do those things, and I photograph them. There is time to stop for snacks, time for someone to have had enough of me for a while, time to change clothes without rushing. Mostly there is time for the children to forget I’m there, which is usually when the photographs I want start happening.

Whatโs included:
โ 3 hours, with breaks whenever you need them
โ A planning conversation before the session, about what your family likes doing together and what you would most like photographed
โ At home in or around Eindhoven, and a place that matters to you if you’d like
โ 50 fully edited digital images, including individual portraits of each family member
โ An outfit change if you want one
โ Help with what to wear
โ Private online gallery, ready within two weeks
โ Up to 5 people, โฌ25 for each additional person
Price: โฌ795
Where we photograph
Most of my sessions happen at home. Not because it’s convenient, though it is, but because a home is the clearest thing you have to say about your life here: the mugs you chose, the corner where the toys end up, the window everyone drifts toward. Photographing it is most of the reason the pictures look like you.
Winter isn’t a problem for this. Dutch light in November comes through a window perfectly well, and nobody has to stand in the rain being cheerful.
If you’d rather be outside, we can be. A wood, a park, the walk you take every Sunday. And we can do both: start at home over breakfast and end up outdoors, which works particularly well with children who need somewhere to run afterwards.
Sessions in Eindhoven are included. Further out there is a travel supplement, and I’ll tell you the amount before you book.
We’ll talk it through beforehand and choose what suits you.
