Family Photography

The main thing in family photography for me is that it is about your family. Not an idea of family, but your actual one.

Slow morning or total chaos, at home, in your garden or in a park, your children having the time of their lives jumping on the bed, climbing a tree (or you), or quietly drawing in their favorite corner, you all playing board games together or having your Pizza Friday, sticky fingers, dirty feet, messy or tidy: I am all for it. I want to put as much of how your life actually feels right now into photographs as I can. We plan the session around your family – your joys, your routines, the little rituals. What I am after is photographs you will still recognize yourselves in, years from now.

I wholeheartedly believe that a photograph of a little hand grabbing yours might hold the most value in the years to come. The images of you playing and cuddling together, making tea or reading, entirely immersed in your warm world, just as you are when nobody else with a camera is around – this is what I want for you.

And of course we can always throw in some posed images for grandmas and grandpas (and if they are visiting, we can plan a session that specifically includes them, which is another kind of sweet).

How it works

1.

You write to me. Tell me a little about your family and what you have in mind. I write back with the two options, which one I would suggest for you, and why. If you already know what you want, we just move to the next step.

2.

We settle the date, the place and the time. At home, outdoors, or both. If you would like suggestions for a location, I have a few. The time we set around your family rather than around the light, so a nap or a school run decides it, not me. Whatever the light does that day, I can work with.

3.

I send the booking invoice and the agreement. Your date is held once the booking fee is paid and the signed page is back. It comes off the total, and it moves with you if the date needs to change.

4.

Right after booking, a short questionnaire that helps me get to know you a little better. It asks what you like doing together, what makes your children laugh, whether there is something you would particularly like photographed, or something you would rather skip. It takes as long as you like, depending on how much you want to tell me. I use your answers to plan the session around your family.

For Room to Linger, we plan the session together a few weeks beforehand, once I have your answers. I suggest a call, though if writing suits you better, that works just as well.

5.

Two weeks before, a guide for the day. A short read, so you know what to expect. This is also the moment for clothes: send me photos of what you are considering, all of it or just the part you are unsure about, and I will help you put it together.

6.

On the day, we start by talking through the plan. Then we mostly follow what is already happening. Nobody has to sit still, and nobody has to know what to do with their hands.

7.

Your gallery is ready within two weeks. Fully edited, an exact number of images, yours to download and keep. No ordering session afterwards: the price you see includes your photographs.
